여는 기도

아버지 하나님과 주 예수 그리스도시여, 주의 성도들에게 평화를 내려주소서.

8 그가 체포되어 유죄판결을 받았지만 그 세대 사람들 가운데서 어느 누가, 그가 사람 사는 땅에서 격리된 것을 보고서, 그것이 바로 형벌을 받아야 할 내 백성의 허물 때문이라고 생각하였느냐?

9 그는 폭력을 휘두르지도 않았고, 거짓말도 하지 않았지만, 사람들은 그에게 악한 사람과 함께 묻힐 무덤을 주었고, 죽어서 부자와 함께 들어가게 하였다.

10 주님께서 그를 상하게 하고자 하셨다. 주님께서 그를 병들게 하셨다. 그가 그의 영혼을 속건제물로 여기면, 그는 자손을 볼 것이며, 오래오래 살 것이다. 주님께서 세우신 뜻을 그가 이루어 드릴 것이다.

Yet it was the LORD'S will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the LORD makes his life a guilt offering, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the LORD will prosper in his hand(10절).

[오늘의 묵상]

사람들은 예수님이 죄가 없음을 알고 있었다. 

그분은 한 평생 사람들을 치료하고 회복시키고 먹이는 일에 전념하셨다. 

의사같은 분이셨다. 

간호사같은 분이셨다. 

사람들은 그분의 예루살렘 입성에 환호했다. 

그런데 그분이 갑자기 잡히셨다. 

초라한 모습으로 군중 앞에 서셨다. 

백성들의 지도자들이 그분이 죄인이라고 정죄하니 군중들은 덩달아 따라간다. 

어떤 사람도 심지어 사탄 조차도 예수님의 고난과 죽음이 사람들의 죄 때문이라고 생각하지 못했다. 

누구도 그것이 사람들이 받아야할 형벌을 대신 받는 거라고 생각하지 못했다. 

그저 지도자들이, 그 똑똑하고 존경받는 그 지도자들이, 예수가 죄인이고 죽어 마땅하다고 말하니, 사람들은 동조할 수 밖에 없었다. 

예수님은 폭력을 휘두르지 않으셨다. 

자신을 잡으러 온 지도자들의 하수인 깡패들에게 순순히 잡히셨다. 

화가난 베드로가 하수인 중 한 명, 말고의 귀를 잘랐을 때도, 떨어진 그 귀를 다시 붙여주셨다. 

여전히 그분은 능력이 출중하신 분이시며, 원하시면 그 상황을 피할 수 있었다. 

그러나 도망하거나 피하거나 싸우거나 저주하거나 욕하지 않으셨다. 

자신의 능력을 감추고, 하수인들이 이끄는대로 따라가셨다. 

하나님은 자신의 아들을 상하게 할 작정이셨다. 

오랫동안 계획했던 일이었다. 

게세마네 기도에서 피가 나올 정도로 최선을 다해 기도하셨던 예수님은 단순히 십자가를 지기 싫어서 그렇게 열심히 기도하신 것이 아니었다. 

그 모든 과정에서 자신의 능력을 감추고, 말없이 침묵으로 그 길을 가야 했기 때문이리라. 

본질적으로는 십자가 상에서 하나님과 분리되는 듯한 순간을 경험해야 했기 떄문이리라. 

그 모든 순간에 하나님의 뜻을 이루기 위해 속건제물이 되어 순한 양과 염소처럼 끌려 다녀야 했기 때문이리라. 

과정과 결과 모두 하나님 뜻에 맡겨야 했다. 

모든 것을 짊어지고 떠나야 하는 순간이 있다. 

과정과 결과 모두 주님께 맡기도 고통과 수난의 순간을 통과해야 하는 날들이 있다. 

억울하고 괴롭겠지만 주님이 가셨던 길을 걸어야 하는 순간이 있다. 

그런 날이 찾아 올 때, 나만의 게셋마네로 올라가야 할 것이다. 

그곳에서 이 모든 난관을 이길 힘을 주시길 기도해야 할 것이다.

[오늘의 기도]

예수님, 

당신은 억울하게 누명을 쓰셨습니다. 

그럼에도 어떤 힘도 쓰지 않고 저항도 하지 않으셨습니다. 

주님, 

저에게도 혹 그런 억울한 일이 있을 때, 

무엇보다 주님께 기도하게 하소서. 

해결하기 위해 노력해야겠지만, 

그보다 앞서 주님께 기도하게 하소서.

저만의 게세마네를 찾게 하소서. 

조용히 앉아 주님의 도우심을 구합니다. 

조용히 앉아 과정과 결과 모두를 주님께 맡깁니다. 

하나님의 뜻이 이뤄지길 갈망하는 마음으로 이 길을 걷겠습니다. 

예수님이 돌아가신 날을 기념하고 묵상하는 오늘, 성금요일, 

더욱 주님께 나아갑니다. 

끝까지 주님을 바라봅니다. 

예수님의 이름으로 기도드립니다. 

아멘. 

[Today’s Word Essay]

People knew that Jesus was without sin.

He devoted his lifetime to healing, restoring, and nourishing people.

He was like a physician.

He was like a nurse.

People rejoiced at his entry into Jerusalem.

But then he was suddenly seized.

He stood before the crowd in humble appearance.

When the leaders of the people condemned him as a sinner, the crowd followed suit.

No one, not even Satan, thought that Jesus' suffering and death were because of people's sins.

No one thought that it was to endure the punishment people deserved.

They simply had to comply when the leaders, those smart and respected leaders, said that Jesus was a sinner and deserved to die.

Jesus did not wield violence.

He willingly allowed himself to be apprehended by the henchmen of the leaders who came to arrest him.

When angry Peter cut off the ear of one of the henchmen named Malchus, Jesus healed the severed ear.

He still possessed extraordinary power, and if he wanted, he could have avoided the situation.

Yet, he did not flee, resist, curse, or revile.

He concealed his power and followed the lead of the henchmen.

God was determined to bruise his own son.

It was a long-planned event.

In the prayer at Gethsemane, where blood flowed from his pores as he prayed fervently, Jesus did not pray so fervently simply because he did not want to bear the cross.

In all those processes, he had to conceal his power and walk silently on that path.

Essentially, he had to experience a moment on the cross where he seemed to be separated from God.

In all those moments, he had to be a sacrificial offering to fulfill God's will, being led like a gentle lamb or a goat.

Both the process and the outcome had to be entrusted to God's will.

There comes a moment when one must bear everything and depart.

There are days when one must entrust both the process and the outcome to the Lord and pass through the moments of suffering and hardship.

It may seem unfair and distressing, but there comes a time when one must walk the path that the Lord walked.

When such days come, one must ascend to one's own Gethsemane.

At that place, one must pray for the strength to overcome all obstacles.

[Today’s Prayer]

Jesus,

You were unjustly accused.

Yet, you did not exert any force or resistance.

Lord,

When I face similar unjust circumstances,

Above all, lead me to pray to you.

I will strive to resolve them,

But first, let me pray to you.

Lead me to find my own Gethsemane.

Quietly, I seek your assistance, Lord.

Quietly, I entrust both the process and the outcome to you.

With a heart longing for the fulfillment of God's will, I will walk this path.

On this Good Friday, commemorating and meditating on the day of your return,

I approach you even more.

I fix my gaze on you until the end.

I pray in the name of Jesus.

Amen.

여는 기도

우리에게 강한 힘으로 활동하시는 하나님의 능력이, 얼마나 엄청나게 큰지를 알게 하소서.

6 우리는 모두 양처럼 길을 잃고, 각기 제 갈 길로 흩어졌으나, 주님께서 우리 모두의 죄악을 그에게 지우셨다.

7 그는 굴욕을 당하고 고문을 당하였으나, 아무 말도 하지 않았다. 마치 도살장으로 끌려가는 어린 양처럼, 마치 털 깎는 사람 앞에서 잠잠한 암양처럼, 끌려가기만 할 뿐, 아무 말도 하지 않았다.

NIV

We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth(6-7절).

[오늘의 묵상]

가장 고통스런 순간에 제자들이 예수님을 떠났다. 

예수님은 홀로 남아 그 모진 비난과 고통과 슬픔을 당하셨다. 

죽을만큼 힘들어도 조용히 참아내셨다. 

제자들은 죽음의 공포를 느껴서 다들 숨었다. 

예수님이 이런 상황에서 뭔가 기적 같은 일을 벌일 거라고 생각한 사람도 있었다. 

하지만 예수님은 아무 일도 하지 않으셨다. 

그저 당하기만 할 뿐이었다. 

가륫 유다가 대제사장의 종들과 함께 칼과 몽둥이를 가지고 다가올 때, 제자들은 모두 혼비백산 달아났다. 

심지어 어떤 제자는 입고있던 옷까지 내버려두고 맨몸으로 도망치기도 했다. 

학자들은 그가 마가일거라 주장한고 한다. 

여호와 하나님은 인류의 죄를 예수님에게 지우셨다. 

이사야는 예수님 오시기 700년 전에 이미 이것을 예언했다. 

하나님께서 그에게 이 놀라운 비밀을 알려 주셨다. 

그리고 예수님은 이 예언과 약속을 성취하셨다. 

아무말 없이 고난의 길, 죽음의 길을 걸어 가셨다. 

홀로 외로이 그 길을 묵묵히 침묵으로 걸어 가셨다. 

자신을 변호하지도 않았고, 제사장을 욕하지도 않으셨다. 

그저 운명으로 숙명으로 받아들이고 묵묵히 걸어 가신 것이다. 

당신의 죽음으로 우리의 구원을 이루셨다. 

정말 아주 가끔씩 하나님은 당신의 종들에게 이런 예수님의 길을 걸으라 하신다. 

다른 사람들의 구원을 위해, 죽음의 길을 선택하라고 하신다. 

예수님처럼 묵묵히 그 길을 걸어가라고 하신다. 

모든 성도들에게 요구하시는 것은 아닐 것이다. 

그러나 때로 이런 소명을 받은 사람이 있다. 

그는 예수님처럼 많은 사람들을 위해 고난과 슬픔과 외로움의 길을 걸어가야 한다. 

그 길만이 구원과 생명의 길이기 때문이다. 

가능하면 그 소명이 나의 소명이 아니길 바란다. 

가능하면 덜 고독하고, 덜 괴롭고, 덜 고통스러운 길로 가고 싶다. 

그리스도인의 길이 좁은 길인 줄 알지만, 난 조금은 편한 길로 가고 싶다. 

그렇더라도, 하나님의 소명을 버리진 않으리라. 

[오늘의 기도]

주님, 

외롭게 그 길을 걸어가신 당신을 바라봅니다. 

가능하면 저도 그 옆에서 당신과 함께 그 길을 가고 싶지만, 

한 편으로는 그저 조용히 아무 일도 없는 것처럼, 소시민으로 살고 싶은 마음도 있습니다. 

주님, 

당신이 원하시는 길을 걷게 하소서. 

당신이 바라시는 길을 가게 하소서. 

주님을 의지합니다. 

예수님의 이름으로 기도드립니다. 

아멘.

여는 기도

성도들에게 베푸시는 하나님의 영광스러운 상속이, 얼마나 풍성한지를 알게 하소서.

4 그는 실로 우리가 받아야 할 고통을 대신 받고, 우리가 겪어야 할 슬픔을 대신 겪었다. 그러나 우리는, 그가 징벌을 받아서 하나님에게 맞으며, 고난을 받는다고 생각하였다.

5 그러나 그가 찔린 것은 우리의 허물 때문이고, 그가 상처를 받은 것은 우리의 악함 때문이다. 그가 징계를 받음으로써 우리가 평화를 누리고, 그가 매를 맞음으로써 우리의 병이 나았다.

Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed(4-5절).

[오늘의 묵상]

사람들로부터 멸시와 천대를 받는 그분, 

외형으로는 보잘 것 없어 보이는 그분, 

마른 땅의 연한 싹처럼 언제 죽어도 이상할 것 없는 그분, 

그분이 그렇게 당하는 이유는 바로 우리 사람들 때문이었다. 

하나님께 반역한 사람들이 받아야 할 고통, 

하나님과의 언약을 어긴 사람들이 받아야 할 슬픔, 

하나님 대신 우상을 들여와 사회와 자연을 엉망으로 만든 사람들이 받아야할 징벌, 

이 모든 것을 대신해서 받으신다. 

사람들의 죄와 허물이 하나님을 고통의 현장으로 끌어 내렸다. 

돌아오지 않는 사람들, 회개하지 않는 사람들로 인해 하나님이 죽음의 형장으로 걸어가셨다. 

그분 스스로 징계를 받고, 매를 맞음으로 사람들에게 평화와 회복을 선사하셨다. 

왜 이런 일이 가능한지, 왜 대신 형벌 받는 것이 가능한지는 모르겠다. 

그러나 인류 역사는 이런 사례가 적지 않다. 

가족이 대신해서 벌을 받는다. 

사랑하는 사람들이 대신해서 벌을 받는다. 

한 사람을 살리기 위해 다른 사람이 옷을 벗는다. 

권위 있는 사람이 처음 시작한 사람의 앞길을 위해 자신의 지위를 내려 놓는다. 

아버지와 어머니가 자녀들을 대신해서 벌금을 내고 또는 감옥에 갇힌다. 

대신 갚은 문화가 왜 없다고 말하는가! 

개인주의가 팽배한 현 세상에서 찾아보기 힘든 일인 것은 사실이지만, 사랑하는 가족, 자신의 피붙이를 위해 위험을 감수하며 대신 벌을 받고 대신 채무를 상환하는 일이 왜 없겠는가! 

하나님이 그 일을 하신 것이다. 

자신 스스로 자신의 분신 같은 아들로 하여금 사랑하는 당신의 자녀들을 위해 대신 갚아주시고 대신 형벌을 받아 주신다. 

죄인들, 반역자들, 언약 파기자들의 평화와 회복을 위해 감행하신다. 

이 사실을 굳이 억지로 감추고 거부할 필요가 없다. 

십자가에는 하나님의 사랑이 이렇게 드러난 것이다. 

대신 형벌을 받는다. 

속죄에 다양한 이론이 있지만, 형벌대속론은 폐기될 이론이 아니다. 

다른 이론들과 통합되어야 한다. 

하나님은 인류의 죄를 대신 짊어지시고 십자가의 길을 걸어가신 것이다. 

그 길만이 사탄의 권세를 근본적으로 무너뜨리는 방법이다. 

작은 전투에서 귀신과 사탄의 공격을 무력화시킬 수 있었다. 

그러나 가장 핵심적인 전투는 “하나님과 화해하는” 전투다. 

이 전투를 치르려면 용서, 언약의 재체결, 언약의 영향력 유지 등이 확보되어야 했다. 

그를 위해 인간 측에서 할 수 있는 일은 지극히 제한적이다. 

하나님과 예수님, 성령님은 준비를 완료하셨다. 

반역자, 언약 파기자, 죄인을 용서할 준비를 십자가를 통해 마치셨고, 

새로운 언약을 하나님 당신과 동격인 당신의 아들을 통해 맺으셨다. 

그리고 언약의 영향력이 계속 유지되도록, 예수님의 영이신 성령님을 사람들에게 부어주셨다. 

이렇게 하나님께서 하신 일을 통해 사람들은 새로운 관계와 영역으로 들어가게 된다. 

하나님의 아들, 하나님 나라의 백성, 거룩한 제사장이 된 것이다. 

이 모든 것을 하나님이 하셨다. 

오늘도 그분을 찬양한다. 

[오늘의 기도]

인류를 대신해서 고통과 고난을 당하신 하나님, 

당신의 사랑을 찬양합니다. 

당신의 사랑을 더 많은 사람들이 깊이 경험하게 하소서. 

머리로만 아는 것이 아니라, 마음으로 깊이 경험하게 하소서. 

고난주간입니다.

주님의 고난을 생각합니다. 

고난 받는 사람들의 마음을 누구보다 잘 아시는 예수님, 

고난 속에 고통 속에 있는 사람들을 구원하소서. 

악한 구조로부터 구출해주소서. 

자본의 노예가 되었다면, 그래서 제대로 쉬지도 못하고 병들고 지친 몸으로 일터로 향하고 있다면, 그들을 회복시켜주소서. 

예수님의 이름으로 기도드립니다. 

아멘.  

[Today’s Word Essay]

He who receives contempt and condemnation from people,

He who appears insignificant in appearance,

He who is like a tender shoot from dry ground, never ceasing to be surprising,

The reason He suffers so is because of us human beings.

The pain that people who rebel against God should receive,

The sadness that those who violate the covenant with God should receive,

The punishment that those who bring idols into society and nature and make a mess of it should receive,

He receives all of this on our behalf.

The sins and transgressions of people brought God to the scene of suffering.

Because of those who never return, those who do not repent, God walked to the gallows of death.

He disciplined Himself and, through being beaten, brought peace and restoration to people.

I don't know why such a thing is possible,

But this kind of occurrence is not uncommon in human history.

Families take the punishment for one another.

Loved ones take the punishment for one another.

One person removes their clothes to save another.

An authoritative figure gives up their position for the sake of those who are starting out.

Parents pay fines for their children, or even go to prison for them.

Why is there no culture of vicarious repayment!

God did that work.

He made His own beloved Son, who was like Himself, pay the price for the sins of His beloved children and receive the punishment on their behalf.

He acts for the peace and restoration of sinners, rebels, and covenant breakers.

There is no need to forcibly hide or deny this fact.

This is how God's love was revealed on the cross.

He takes the punishment instead.

There are various theories of atonement, but the theory of penal substitution is not one to be discarded.

It must be integrated with other theories.

God took on humanity's sins and walked the path of the cross.

That path alone is the fundamental way to overthrow the power of Satan.

In small battles, the attacks of demons and Satan could be neutralized.

But the most crucial battle was the battle of "reconciling with God."

To fight this battle, forgiveness, re-signing the covenant, and maintaining the influence of the covenant had to be secured.

What could be done on the human side for this was very limited.

God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit completed the preparation.

Through the cross, they prepared to forgive rebels, covenant breakers, and sinners,

and made a new covenant through Your Son, who is equal to You, God.

And to ensure that the influence of the covenant continued, You poured out the Spirit of Your Son, Jesus, on people.

Through these actions of God, people enter into a new relationship and realm.

They become the Son of God, the people of the Kingdom of God, and holy priests.

God did all this.

Today, we praise Him again.

[Today’s Prayer]

O God, who endured pain and suffering on behalf of humanity,

We praise Your love.

May more people deeply experience Your love.

Not just with their minds, but with their hearts.

It is Holy Week.

We reflect on Your suffering, Lord.

Jesus, who knows the hearts of those suffering more than anyone,

Save those in pain and suffering.

Rescue them from evil structures.

If they have become slaves to capitalism, unable to rest properly, and are heading to work with tired and sick bodies, restore them.

We pray in the name of Jesus Christ.

Amen.

여는 기도
우리 마음의 눈을 밝혀 주셔서, 하나님의 부르심에 속한 소망이 무엇인지 알게 하소서.
 
1 우리가 들은 것을 누가 믿었느냐? 주님의 능력이 누구에게 나타났느냐?
2 그는 주님 앞에서, 마치 연한 순과 같이, 마른 땅에서 나온 싹과 같이 자라서, 그에게는 고운 모양도 없고, 훌륭한 풍채도 없으니, 우리가 보기에 흠모할 만한 아름다운 모습이 없다.
3 그는 사람들에게 멸시를 받고, 버림을 받고, 고통을 많이 겪었다. 그는 언제나 병을 앓고 있었다. 사람들이 그에게서 얼굴을 돌렸고, 그가 멸시를 받으니, 우리도 덩달아 그를 귀하게 여기지 않았다.

Who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed? He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him. He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not(1-3절).
 
 
[오늘의 묵상]
이사야는 묻는다. 
과연 누가 주님의 능력을 드러내는가? 
여호와 하나님의 권능을 이 세상에 드러낼 사람은 누구인가? 
하나님의 구원의 역사를 실현시킬 사람은 누구인가? 
하나님의 메시지를 들고와서 이 땅에 뿌리 내리고 싹을 틔워 열매를 맺게 할 사람은 누구인가? 
우주의 주인이신 분의 사자, 메신저는 누구인가? 
모세처럼, 다윗처럼 살아갈 사람이 누구인가? 
 
한 사람이 있다. 
그는 지극히 연약한 사람이다. 
연한 순 같이 등장할 것이다. 
마른 땅에서 나온 싹과 같아서 곧이라도 죽을 것만 같을 것이다. 
겨우 생명을 유지하고 있는 듯한 느낌을 준다. 
곱고 아름다운 외모를 갖고 있지 않다. 
체격이 우람하거나 근육이 대단하거나 하지 않는다. 
이스라엘의 초대 왕 사울은 평균적인 사람들보다 머리 하나가 더 위에 있었다고 한다. 
그러나 그는 눈에 띄는 사람이 아니다. 
 
게다가 그는 사람들로부터 멸시를 받다가 버림을 받는다. 
극심한 고통 속에 거한다. 
몸과 마음에 골병이 들어 있다. 
사람들은 그에게서 얼굴을 돌리고 침을 뱉는다. 
그의 말을 더는 듣지 않으려고 귀를 막고 얼굴을 돌린다. 
아무리 외쳐도 듣지는 않고 분노의 발길질이 이러진다. 
채찍으로 내리치고, 가시로 살을 찢는다. 
피가 범벅이고, 곧 죽을 것 같다. 
사람들이 그렇게 막 대하니, 관련이 없던 자들도 그를 존중하지 않는다. 
 
예수님이다. 
예수님을 통해 하나님의 능력이 나타날 것이다. 
그러나 위대한 개선 장군처럼 나타나지 않으실 것이다. 
예수님은 가장 연약한 모습으로 사람들 앞에 서실 것이다. 
십자가를 끌고 골고다 언덕을 오르실 때, 물론 많은 사람들이 슬퍼했지만, 또한 많은 사람들이 욕하고 비난했다. 
곧 죽을 것처럼 그렇게 힘없이 상황을 맞이하신다. 
그 연약함을 통해 하나님은 일하신다. 
그 연약함을 통해 하나님은 당신의 구원 사역을 이루신다. 
자신감으로 가득한 사람이 아니라, 겟세마네에서 피가 섞인 땀으로 기도하신 사람이다. 
 
위기의 순간이 언제나 찾아온다. 
삐끗하면 나락이다. 
두려움으로 꼼짝할 수가 없다. 
하나님은 연약하여 아무것도 할 수 없다고 생각하며 주님께 기도하는 자들을 사용하신다. 
지금이 바로 그 때다. 
 
 
[오늘의 기도]
연약한 자를 사용하시는 하나님,
멸시와 천대를 받으신 예수님을 사용하셔서 위대한 구원의 역사를 이루셨습니다. 
인류를 죄와 사망과 사탄의 권세에서 구출하셨습니다. 
감사와 찬양을 주께 올려드립니다. 
고난주간 주님을 묵상합니다. 
매일 매일 고통의 길을 걸어가신 주님을 바라봅니다. 
주님과 함께 그 길에 머물게 하소서. 
고통당하는 사람들 곁에 계시는 주님, 
끝나도 끝나지 않는 길 위의 사람들을 위로하소서.

Isaiah asks.
Who indeed will reveal the Lord's power?
Who will reveal the power of Jehovah God in this world?
Who will realize the salvation of God?
Who will bring God's message, plant it in this land, and make it bear fruit?
Who is the messenger of the Lord of the universe?
Who will live like Moses, like David?
 
There is one person.
He is exceedingly weak.
He will appear like a tender sprout.
Like a sprout that comes out of dry ground, he will seem about to die.
He gives the feeling of barely sustaining life.
He does not possess a handsome or beautiful appearance.
He is neither robust nor has extraordinary muscles.
It is said that Israel's first king, Saul, was a head taller than the average person.
But he is not a noticeable person.
 
Furthermore, he is despised by people.
He lives amidst severe agony.
His body and mind are plagued.
People turn away from him and spit at him.
They stop listening to his words, block their ears, and turn their faces away.
Even if he shouts, they won't listen, and their rage turns violent.
They strike him with whips, tear his flesh with thorns.
His blood spills, and he seems about to die.
People treat him so brutally, even those unrelated to him don't respect him.
 
It is Jesus.
Through Jesus, the power of God will be revealed.
But he will not appear like a great military commander.
Jesus will stand before people in the most vulnerable form.
When he carries the cross and climbs Golgotha hill, many will mourn, but many will also curse and condemn.
He will face the situation so weakly, as if about to die.
 
Through that weakness, God works.
Through that weakness, God accomplishes your salvation.
He is not someone full of confidence, but someone who prayed in Gethsemane with sweat mixed with blood.
The moment of crisis always comes.
A misstep leads to a fall.
One cannot move for fear.
God uses those who pray to Him, and who think that they are weak and cannot do anything.
Now is the time.
 
[Today’s Prayer]
O God who uses the weak,
You accomplished the great work of salvation by using Jesus Christ, who endured contempt and condemnation.
You rescued humanity from sin, death, and the power of Satan.
We offer thanks and praise to You.
During this Holy Week, we meditate on our Lord's suffering.
We look to Jesus, who walked the path of suffering every day.
Please, keep us with You on that path.
Lord, who is with those who suffer,
Comfort those on the never-ending road of suffering.
 
In Jesus' name, I pray.
